At first glance it might seem that both definitions could apply to this little fella, but if you look closely, his wings are ready to deploy, and thinking about it i’d say he’s pretty well able to adapt to a change in circumstances here with his wings ready for escape and the ability to roll up into a little protective ball if they should fail him. Can you say that about your own life? We all live closer to the edge than we like to think, and we don’t have wings or armour plating if we fall.
Playing with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro lens in my garden again, pretty tricky to get used the shallow doff at that size, when only a small part of your ladybird is in focus, but it works well here (IMHO) to emphasise the depths below should he fall.
